The interview

Q1

What’s your coffee ritual?

I usually start with a brew in bed (thanks to my lovely partner), followed by a dry cappuccino once I start work.

Q2

What was your first marketing job?

I was a Marketing Assistant at Ted Baker. I’ve gone from fashion to fintech, and it’s been quite the ride.

Q3

What finance apps do you have on your home screen?

Wise for transfers, Monument for savings and ISAs, Monzo for fun spending, and Trading 212 for stocks.

Q4

Which newsletter, podcast, or book do you recommend most?

Tom Davies’ Marketing is Hard. It’s basically therapy when it lands in my inbox. I’m constantly nodding along.
Rory Woodbridge’s The Product Marketer is brilliant for product marketing.
Podcast-wise, Uncensored CMO. The Chris Burggraeve episode completely changed how I approach conversations with my Exec team. Do yourself a favour and have a listen.

Q5

What’s an underrated growth channel in fintech?

Lifecycle comms and customer experience. I live by the rule that you should never pour water into a leaking bucket when increasing ad spend. Strong retention is crucial for scaling effectively.

Q6

What keeps you up at night?

Honestly, the number of women pushed out of work after having children is terrifying. I get a call almost every month from someone going through it, especially in tech. That, and wondering if I’m setting the right example for my daughter when it comes to work/life balance. Mum guilt is real!

Q7

What are the most useful measurement tools you use in your work?

God, I miss Amplitude. We’re still in startup mode, so for now, it’s mostly GA4 and Funnel. But watch this space.

Q8

What’s one fintech brand (other than your own) that’s getting marketing right?

Tembo’s social media content and ads are strong. Although their market is totally different from ours, they’ve built a relatable brand that works for their audience.

Q9

Why is marketing so hard?

You’re constantly trying to prove that marketing drives future growth, while being seen as a cost or a risk. It’s a structural challenge on the P&L that often bleeds into company culture. Your brand is just as much of an asset as your product. I genuinely believe it should be classified as CapEx. We’ve all seen how brand power influences valuations ahead of an IPO, but I don’t think any of us (including me) have cracked how to make that case or navigate the strict accounting rules!

Q10

Whose answers to the above questions would you most like to read?

Rich Houston at Zopa Bank. I had a great chat with him about product marketing; he’s very smart. They’re flying at the moment.
