The interview
What’s your coffee ritual?
Lately it’s been an iced latte mid-morning, and I like to have a walk around the block back home as I drink it. I’ve tried to build things like this into my morning routine as a remote worker.
What was your first marketing job?
As a Content Executive at Red Letter Days, where I was lucky enough to get to try out lots of different experience days that we sold.
What finance apps do you have on your home screen?
Monzo, Moneybox, Freetrade, and of course PensionBee UK.
Which newsletter, podcast, or book do you recommend most?
Since it came out, I’ve never skipped an episode of the Miss Me? podcast, so it has to be that. Perfect blend of nostalgia and pop culture.
What’s an underrated growth channel in fintech?
Customer testimonials. They are the ones using your product and know what makes it so great (and where you can improve too). Including them at the heart of what you do is key for growth - whether that be for press activity, featuring them in your ATL, or for getting feedback to improve the product experience.
What keeps you up at night?
Currently it’s the [August] UK heatwave - it’s making bed time a struggle. But when it comes to work it’s about how to stay innovative as a challenger brand.
What are the most useful measurement tools you use in your work?
Attest for our brand tracking and Looker for everything else we need data wise. We’ve recently started using Adclear too, not for measurement but it’s been a game changer for assisting with consistent TOV and financial promotion reviewing.
What’s one fintech brand (other than your own) that’s getting marketing right?
Not a fintech, but am really enjoying the work coming out of the femtech Clue. I like to learn from other verticals and apply what’s going well there to what I do at PensionBee.
Why is marketing so hard?
Because it’s SO visible wherever you work and everyone thinks they can do it better than you. What effective marketing looks like is just so personal to you, as everyone responds to different things!
Whose answers to the above questions would you most like to read?
Lauren Spearman - I know we’d hear some great, very honest things from her.
