The interview

Q1

What’s your coffee ritual?

Home barista. A flat white first thing - non-negotiable. Latte art’s still a work in progress though.

Q2

What was your first marketing job?

Marketing mortgages at Nationwide Building Society after their grad scheme. Big ATL campaigns, merch, and DM. Steep learning curve but brilliant fun.

Q3

What finance apps do you have on your home screen?

Plenty. Daily drivers are Monzo, Revolut, Moneybox, and yes, still Nationwide Building Society. Off topic: I’ve got a soft spot for Yahoo Finance UK too.

Q4

Which newsletter, podcast, or book do you recommend most?

Alchemy by Rory Sutherland for marketing brain food. Goalhanger podcasts to stay plugged into the world. And Uncensored CMO for pure marketing gold.

Q5

What’s an underrated growth channel in fintech?

Customer advocacy. Fans who love you complain less, buy more, and recruit others for free. If customers don’t love you, you’ll struggle.

Q6

What keeps you up at night?

My new dog. And trading performance. I check numbers daily, and any variance from plan keeps me restless.

Q7

What are the most useful measurement tools you use in your work?

LinkedIn’s a must-have. And right now I’m loving Favikon - it cuts through the noise and helps measure real influence.

Q8

What’s one fintech brand (other than your own) that’s getting marketing right?

Hard to look past the giants, but I’ll call out HES FinTech (Lithuanian). Sharp value proposition, visionary leadership, global intent, and clearly punching above their weight.

Q9

Why is marketing so hard?

It isn’t. But world-class marketing is. Like golf, anyone can swing a club. But elite performance means mastering dozens of tiny variables. And that’s hard!

Q10

Whose answers to the above questions would you most like to read?

Simon Squibb. He’s relentlessly committed to helping others succeed and follow their dreams.
